David Begent, Artist & Sculptor

David, who is originally from Ithaca, New York, now resides in Del Mar, CA, and works out of his 8,000 SF plus studio on his ranch in Ramona (located on Highland Valley Road overlooking the Santa Maria Valley Preserve).  He began developing his artistic talents in high school and won praise from students and teachers and a statewide award for his collage “Turmoil” during his senior year.

Interested in landscape architecture he attended Cornell University after being drafted and serving 2 years in Vietnam.  He transferred to Texas A&M where he supported himself working in the construction industry and began designing and building homes and restaurants as well as landscape designs while attending A&M.  He was also very involved in the art scene and had several pieces included in local art shows and painted murals inside several area restaurants and night clubs.

In 1987 he moved to San Diego with his wife and 2 children and opened a construction company which became one of the premier biotech tenant improvement construction firms in San Diego.  He continued his involvement in art while running this high profile company and developed the sculpture “The Hug” for the Escondido Community Health Center in 2000, which was accepted by the City of Escondido Art in Public Places Program.

David sold his company in 2009 and is now focusing his attention on art and his family business Begent Design Works (see www.begentdesignworks.com )
